“The Astrometric Archive” is a photographic series that pictures the nightlights of a city as dream-like networks of celestial bodies in the sky.. With the boom of Asian metropolises over the recent century, lights of the city at night become an iconic benchmark of its progress. Its luminosity dominates the urban landscape, wiping out the visibility of natural elements in the night sky. This symbolic inversion of the land and sky spells an apocalyptic view of a city’s future and urban progress. The hypnotic vibrations of light and dreamlike colors of a city’s night though at once seem celebratory, reverberates the idea of an impending suspension and death.
The images were created with the use large format camera, the images remaps urban landscapes through the use of multiple exposures. By layering visual information in the city one on top of the other, the artist creates an un-ending directory, charting the space, rhythm and luminosity of a contemporary Megapolis.
